SBA opening Business Recovery Center in Pikeville
PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced the opening of a Business Recovery Center (BRC) in Pike County to assist businesses, nonprofits and residents affected by the recent storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides, and mudslides. Beginning Monday, March 31, SBA customer service representatives will be on hand at the BRC to answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process and help individuals complete their application. Prosecutor says Amber Spradlin case won’t be ready for trial for up to a year
Turner also says he would not object to moving the case to Pike County PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The prosecutor has responded to a Floyd County murder defendant’s request to move the trial and hold it as soon as possible. Floyd County Commonwealth’s Attorney Brent Turner filed his responses on Thursday, after defense attorney Steven Romines filed motions for a speedy trial and a change of venue earlier this month. Romines is representing M.K. McKinney, 25, who is charged with the murder of Amber Spradlin. Man indicted for threatening to kill Pike judge-exec.
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man has been indicted in federal court for posting a video on social media, threatening to kill Pike County Judge-Executive Ray S. Jones II. Ronald Ferguson has been indicted on a single count of interstate threat to injure. According to the indictment, Ferguson posted the video to Facebook on Feb. 27. While such a threat would typically be a misdemeanor state offense, posting it on the internet made it a federal crime, punishable by up to five years in prison. Prosecutors have requested a warrant for Ferguson’s arrest.

Kirk named executive director of Big Sandy Heritage Center Museum
PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Board of Directors of the Big Sandy Heritage Center Museum have selected Brandon Kirk as their new executive director. Kirk, a Lincoln County, W.Va., native, has taught for 25 years in public schools in West Virginia and Tennessee, before teaching higher education for 12 years.
