Floyd man found guilty of manslaughter for shooting at Auxier bridge last year
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — A Floyd County jury has recommended a 20-year sentence for a man who shot and killed another man near the Auxier bridge one year ago. Larry Johnson, 68, of Auxier, was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter on Wednesday, for the shooting death of Steven Adkins, 48, of Prestonsburg. Witnesses testified that Johnson was driving along the bridge on April 25, 2025, when he spotted Adkins.Johnson got out of his car and approached Adkins, and the two began fighting. Virginia drug fugitive arrested on drug charges in Pike County
HARDY, Ky. — A man was arrested Wednesday on drug charges in Pike County, as well as an outstanding warrant for drug charges in Dickenson County. A state trooper had pulled over a car for expired tags on Toler Road just after 8:30 Wednesday night. One of the passengers in the vehicle identified himself as Shane Bowman, but another trooper recognized that name as an alias used by William Bowman, 48, of Hardy, who was wanted on a number of warrants. Pike man charged with exposing himself at Goodwill
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man has been arrested after he allegedly exposed himself to a woman and her minor daughter at Goodwill on Wednesday. Pikeville Police were called to the store just before 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. The woman said a man exposed himself, then left the store in a white pickup truck a short time later. Around the same time, police were called to a report of men fighting in the parking lot of the nearby Lowe’s store. Legendary Kentucky football coach Larry French passes away
Larry French, one of the all-time winningest Kentucky high school football coaches, passed away April 8 at the age of 74. French was a household name and became so during a coaching career that lasted 48 years. Only Philip Haywood and Dudley Hinton have better records than French, who stacked up a record of 381-182, placing him third on the all-time wins list. And he did this while coaching across the board for several schools, including, Middlesboro, Southwestern, and Boyle County, where he won two state championships in 2009 and 2010. Alice Lloyd hires new women’s basketball coach
Alice Lloyd alumni Brandon Arnold has been named the new head basketball coach for the Lady Eagles. Arnold is a former Associate Head Coach of the Alice Lloyd women’s program, he spent five seasons under former head coach John Mills. In his tenure as an assistant, he helped coach the Lady Eagles to the NAIA Division II National Tournament in 2018 and 2019, the only appearances in program history.
