PSC rejects Southern Water rate increase due to use of old data
FRANKFORT, Ky. — A proposed rate increase for Southern Water and Sewer District has been rejected, at least temporarily, because the utility used the wrong data in its application. Southern filed an application with the Kentucky Public Service Commission last month, asking to Raise both its customer charge and water rate by more than 28 percent. If approved, that would raise the average residential customer bill from about $60 a month to more than $75. Magoffin deputies arrest man on drug trafficking charges
SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — A South Carolina man who police say has been the subject of numerous drug trafficking complaints in Magoffin County was arrested Tuesday, after deputies spotted him in Salyersville. Deputies were on patrol in downtown when he saw Todd Kreigh, 52, of Lexington, S.C., coming out of Speedway. The police report notes that when Kreigh spotted the deputies, he got into his car, but then sat there for the next 20 minutes. The deputies finally made contact with him and asked why he was trying to avoid them. Kreigh responded that he was simply talking on the phone. […]

Kidd’s attorney releases statement challenging defense efforts to paint him as a murder suspect
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The man who defendants in the Amber Spradlin murder case are trying to paint as a potential alternative suspect in her death is now speaking out against those allegations, through his attorney. Grant to speed completion of Mountain Parkway expansion
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear announced Wednesday that a federal grant will help the state finish the Mountain Parkway earlier than planned. The governor announced that Kentucky is receiving $116.3 million to fund the construction of the final leg of the highway, from Salyersville to Prestonsburg. “Kentucky is continuing to move forward with essential projects that will strengthen our commonwealth and drive progress to make life better for Kentuckians,” Gov. Motion to reduce bond for suspect in Amber Spradlin murder raises alternative theory of case
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — The attorney for the man accused of killing Amber Spradlin is seeking to have his client’s bond reduced, and he is using the occasion to paint an alternative theory of the case. Spradlin’s body was found in the home of Dr. Michael McKinney on June 18, 2023. She had been stabbed at least 11 times in the neck and head. McKinney’s son, M.K.
