Two Magoffin women indicted on child abuse charge
SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — Two Magoffin County women have been indicted on charges of child abuse. Destiny Brown, 26, and Melissa Howard, 36, both of Salyersville, are each charged with one count of first-degree abuse of a child younger than 12. According to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office, which is prosecuting the case, between October 2024 and July 2025, both of the women hit the child, withheld food as punishment, and confined the child in a room with no access to food or a bathroom. Ohio sex offender ordered back to prison for not telling authorities he had moved to Magoffin County
LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Magoffin County man is heading back to prison, after he pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender. Phillip Harmon, 42, of Salyersville, pleaded guilty to the charge back in January. Court records in Scioto County, Ohio, indicate he pleaded guilty to rape in 2008 and served a 10-year sentence. In his plea agreement, he admits to moving from Ohio to Magoffin County in 2021, but never updating his sex offender registration. Floyd woman sentenced in federal meth conspiracy case
LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Floyd County woman has received a minimum sentence for a federal conspiracy charge after she was found with nearly half a pound of meth. Stephanie Hall, 33, of Maytown, pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of meth. That charge carries a potential sentence of between five and 40 years in prison. Kentucky Frontier warns of cash flow problems after PSC ruling
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky Frontier Gas is asking the Kentucky Public Service Commission to reconsider a recent rate decision, arguing the approved rate structure could create major cash flow problems for the utility. In a motion for rehearing filed with the PSC, Kentucky Frontier says the commission’s April order did not raise monthly customer charges enough to cover the company’s fixed operating costs. The utility had requested a monthly customer charge of $25, similar to rates charged by larger Kentucky gas companies, but the commission approved a charge of about $17.63 per month.
