Virgie man’s child porn trial postponed until June
LONDON, Ky. — A Pike County man accused of possessing child porn has seen his federal trial date delayed more than two months. Charles Michael Hopkins, 34, of Virgie, is charged with possession of child porn, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Police raided Hopkins’ home back in October, when they seized several electronic devices. When they interviewed Hopkins afterwards, he first told them he was sent images by a person he met online. Two killed in Perry crash involving a state trooper
HAZARD, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team has been requested by KSP Post 13 in Hazard to investigate a fatal crash that occurred Sunday morning in Hazard. A trooper from Post 13 was responding to an emergency call for service in Knott County, traveling east on Route 80. Another vehicle, which was traveling west on Route 80, attempted to turn left onto Perry Circle Road and into the path of the trooper’s vehicle. Clintwood JOD files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
LONDON, Ky. — A Pike County mining company has filed for bankruptcy protection. Clintwood JOD, LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the Eastern District of Kentucky, allowing the company to reorganize its debts while continuing operations. The case comes after the company told an unspecified number of employees in February that way were being temporarily laid off, only to come back two weeks later and say that the layoff is permanent. Kentucky Power asks PSC to reconsider some cuts made in recent rate case
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Fresh off of receiving approval to raise rates, Kentucky Power is asking state regulators to reconsider parts of their decision, warning the current order could hurt the utility’s finances and reliability. On Feb. 28, the Kentucky Public Service Commission granted a rate increase that would generate an additional $55 million a year for Kentucky Power, after the company had requested $77 million. UPIKE Women’s Bowling claims sixth national title
LANSING, Mich. – The University of Pikeville is the 2026 NAIA Women’s Bowling National Champion, claiming the Red Banner in a rematch, reversing the fortune of its last title-match appearance two years ago by beating SCAD Savannah (Ga.) at Royal Scot in Lansing, Mich., March 21. It was UPike’s sixth national championship since the program was started in 2001, the fourth under the NAIA umbrella.
