Stines to appeal judge’s ruling denying bond
WHITESBURG, Ky. — The former sheriff charged with murder for the shooting death of a judge is taking his plea for bond to a higher court. Former Letcher County Sheriff Shawn Mickey Stines is charged in the Sept. 19, 2024, shooting death of Letcher District Judge Kevin Mullins, who was killed inside his chambers at the Letcher County Courthouse. He has been held in jail without bond since his arrest minutes after the shooting. Logan County man indicted on child exploitation charges
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Logan County man who was arrested earlier this year on child porn charges is now facing even more serious charges in federal court. Clinton Gene McNeely, 31, of Lyburn, was arrested back in January on a charge of distributing and exhibiting material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. That charge is a felony punishable by 2-to-10 years in prison. Planning grant will explore community kitchen, agriculture opportunities in Dickenson County
by RODERICK [email protected] DICKENSON COUNTY, Va. — Dickenson County and the Town of Clintwood have secured a $35,000 planning grant from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to assess the viability of a community kitchen and evaluate the county’s agricultural sector. The 10-month study will be led by Dr. Elli Travis of Virginia Tech’s Center for Economic and Community Engagement. The community kitchen proposal emerged from the Resilience Adaptation Feasibility Tool (RAFT) program, a joint resilience initiative by the University of Virginia, Old Dominion University, and Virginia Tech, funded locally by UVA’s Environmental Institute. Pikeville man arrested after police seize more than a pound of suspected meth
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pikeville man was arrested Monday after Kentucky State Police say they found him with more than a pound of suspected methamphetamine and other suspected drugs. According to Kentucky State Police, troopers with the Post 9 Street Crimes Unit were attempting to locate 45-year-old William Cody West as part of an ongoing drug investigation, when they found him in the parking lot of the Scholar House apartments in downtown Pikeville. Police say West was taken into custody and found to be in possession of approximately 1.1 lbs. of suspected methamphetamine and about two grams of suspected fentanyl. […]

K9 Bear helps Floyd, Pikeville officers catch fleeing suspect
HAROLD, Ky. — Floyd County Sheriff’s Office K9 Bear helped police capture a man wanted in connection with a stolen dirt bike case out of Pikeville. Floyd County sheriff’s deputies and Pikeville Police went to a residence along Route 979 at Harold just after midnight Thursday morning in search of Joshawa “Jagger” Bevins, 21, who was wanted for questioning about a dirt bike that had been stolen from McCoy Motorsports the previous day.
