Officials celebrate completion of original Mountain Parkway expansion
HELECHEWA, Ky. — A major milestone has been reached in the Mountain Parkway Expansion, with state and federal officials joining Gov. Andy Beshear Monday to celebrate the completion of the Wolfe County segment. One killed in Floyd crash
EASTERN, Ky. — A Floyd County man was killed after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Saturday. Police say Christopher Smith, 48, of McDowell, was traveling along Route 680 near Floyd Central High School just before 2 p.m. Saturday, when he vehicle left the roadway and overturned. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Michael McKinney. Trooper McKinney was assisted at the scene by personnel from KSP Post 9 and local first responder agencies.

One killed in single-vehicle ATV crash
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man was killed Thursday evening in a single-vehicle ATV crash. Kentucky State Police was notified of the crash at Booker Fork just after 5:30 Thursday evening. Police say 74-year-old Billy Tackett, of Pikeville, was operating the ATV on an off-road trail, when the vehicle left the trail and overturned. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Cameron Whitaker. Trooper Whitaker was assisted at the scene by personnel from KSP Post 9 and local first responder agencies.

Longtime city engineer, Summit Engineering president Jack Sykes dies
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Former City of Pikeville Engineer and longtime Summit Engineering president Jack C. Sykes has died at the age of 75. Sykes, a Pikeville native, passed away Saturday, August 29, at his residence. He was born April 2, 1951, to the late Emory and Rebecca May Sykes. In addition to serving as Pikeville’s city engineer for 32 years and retiring as president of Summit Engineering. He was involved with several organizations throughout his career, including the Breaks Interstate Park Commission, which was among the committees he was most proud to serve. Dickenson supervisors get updates from law enforcment, higher education leaders
