Wise County woman sentenced for trafficking cocaine, mushrooms
ABINGDON, Va. — A Wise County, Va., woman has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for trafficking cocaine and psychedelic mushrooms. Emily Dawn McCoy, 27, of Pound, pleaded guilty to distributing more than 500 grams of cocaine and psilocyn. Federal prosecutors say McCoy sold cocaine and drugs to undercover members of the Southwest Virginia Multi-Jurisdictional Narcotics Task Force several times in 2024. When investigators searched her home in September 2024, they say they found nearly two pounds of cocaine, psychedelic mushrooms, suspected marijuana, cannabis wax, a 9-millimeter handgun, ammunition, and what appeared to be a drug sales ledger.

Pikeville woman charged with sexual extortion for attempt to have sex with 16-year-old
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County woman was arrested Thursday over allegations she bought alcohol for a minor and tried to have sex with him. Pikeville Police received a call from a woman who reported that she had found messages on her 16-year-old son’s phone from Kristi Coleman, 38, of Pikeville. The messages included statements that she wished he were 18 and offering to buy the teen alcohol if he would come stay with her. Police: Argument over breakfast results in attempted murder charge
SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — A child’s trip to McDonald’s for breakfast was allegedly the spark that led to a Magoffin County woman being charged with attempted murder. Kentucky State Police was called Sunday morning to a home on Combs Branch Road over reports of an assault and shooting. Man killed in Pike crash
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — One man was killed Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash along U.S. 23 in Pikeville. According to Kentucky State Police, the crash happened just before 4 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicates that Paul Bisbee was traveling south in a 1988 Dodge Ram SUV when his vehicle crossed into the northbound lanes and struck the concrete bridge wall. Bisbee was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Pike County Coroner’s Office. The collision remains under investigation by Trooper Braxton Whitmore. Trooper Whitmore was assisted at the scene by personnel from Post 9 and local first responder agencies.

LONDON, Ky. — The legal battle between the Jenkins Independent School District and a Letcher County woman banned from school property has intensified, with both sides filing competing arguments over whether a federal judge should temporarily lift the ban while the case proceeds.
