Lawmakers want to hear Kentuckians’ concerns about data centers
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentuckians with concerns about the growing number of proposed data centers will have an opportunity to share their views with state lawmakers during a legislative listening session Oct. 1 in Frankfort. The Data Center Legislative Listening Session will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room 171 of the Capitol Annex at 702 Capital Ave. State Rep. Adam Moore organized the session. Residents, local officials and others will be able to discuss the potential impacts of data centers and offer ideas for safeguards as lawmakers consider the issue. Prestonsburg man indicted on child porn charge
LONDON, Ky. — A Prestonsburg man who was arrested on a child porn charge after police raided his apartment last month has now been indicted by a federal grand jury. Jimmy Ray Brown, 31, was arrested on a single count of possessing child porn after the FBI, Kentucky State Police and Prestonsburg Police executed a search warrant at his home Sept. 9. Brown’s arrest came following a long and winding investigation by the FBI’s Huntington office. Four arrested for meth and fentanyl trafficking in Magoffin
SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — What began with a Magoffin County deputy sheriff pulling over a vehicle for a traffic violation ended with four people being taken to jail for meth and fentanyl trafficking. The deputy was observing traffic on Route 2020 when he saw the vehicle pass by and veer onto the far left side of the road when taking a curve. After pulling over the vehicle, he realized that the driver, Howard Timothy Lemaster, 53, of Salyersville, was wanted on warrants, so he detained him. Beshear urges Congress to expand benefits for black lung
FRANKFORT, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear is urging Kentucky’s congressional delegation to support legislation that would increase federal benefits for coal miners suffering from black lung disease. Virginia leaders present $3M opioid settlement check at Wildwood Recovery ribbon-cutting
CLINTWOOD, Va. — State leaders and Dickenson County officials gathered Friday afternoon for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Wildwood Recovery Center, highlighted by the presentation of a $3 million check from Virginia’s opioid settlement funds to support the region’s newest addiction treatment facility. The $20 million, 28,000-square-foot facility, located at 230 Chip Mill Road near the Red Onion Industrial Park in Clintwood, features 112 beds for residential substance-use disorder treatment for both men and women.
