Pike, Johnson men indicted on federal weapons charge
LONDON, Ky. — Two Eastern Kentucky men have been indicted in federal court, after they were allegedly found with firearms, despite previous felony convictions. Stanley Duty, 54, of Phelps, and Steven Lumpkins, 45, of Oil Springs, were each indicted on single counts of felon in possession of a firearm in separate, unrelated cases. According to their indictments, Duty was found with four handguns and a rifle May 20, 2025, in Pike County, while Lumpkins was found with a handgun and a rifle May 29, 2025, in Floyd County. Applications being taken for Kentucky Emerging Playwrights Summer School in Martin
MARTIN, Ky. – Earendel Theatricals will hold its first Kentucky Emerging Playwrights Summer School, to take place July 28 to Aug. 2, at the Dwelling Place Monastery, in Martin. The Summer School will match a small cohort of eight student and early-career playwrights with professional mentors to revise a full-length play for professional submission and develop a personalized strategic plan for each writer’s next career steps. Lawrence Proves They Have That Dog In Them, Captures 15th Region Softball Championship
Lawrence County proved they had that dog in them last night (May 28), capturing the 15th Region Softball Championship with an 8-1 win over Johnson Central at Stonecrest. For a little bit of history surrounding game, their last meeting came May 5, when Johnson Central won 9-6. Before that, it was another Johnson Central win, 7-1, on May 1, 2025. Magoffin man arrested after undercover meth buy
SALYERSVILLE, Ky. — An undercover investigation by the Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in a meth-trafficking arrest. According to the police report, the sheriff’s office sent a confidential informant to purchase 3.5 grams of meth from Adam Curtis Minix, 55, of Salyersville, for $120. That transaction was reportedly captured on audio and video. Minix is now charged with first-degree meth trafficking. If convicted, he will face a potential sentence of 5-to-10 years in prison if he is convicted. He is currently being held in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center, in Paintsville.

Phelps’ McCoy Dominates Stat Sheets Across Kentucky Softball Rankings
If you find yourself scrolling through the KHSAA softball stat leader database, you’re going to see a lot of Phelps, and a big reason for that is senior standout Caleigh McCoy. McCoy made her final season count in just about every way imaginable. She leads the 15th Region in triples with eight, ranking fifth in the state overall.
