Regulators to hold hearing on Pike solar farm
FRANKFORT, Ky. — State regulators will hold a hearing today to consider whether to allow a massive solar farm to be built in Pike County. Savion Energy proposes to build a 100 megawatt facility on more than 15-hundred acres of abandoned mine land along U.S. 119, northeast of Pikeville. If approved, the company predicts it will lead to up to 240 direct jobs and 88 spinoff jobs during the 12-to-15 month construction period. Man who kept police at bay for hours charged with killing his mother
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man who engaged in a standoff with police for several hours Monday has been charged with killing his mother. Police were initially called to his home over reports of a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, Alex Yuhas, 59, of Old Wagner Station Road, refused to come out and he allegedly threatened officers. Yuhas was arrested several hours later after Kentucky State Police negotiated his surrender. UPDATE, 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 16 — Prestonsburg Police announced Wednesday that Greer is now in custody. PRESTONSBURG, Ky. — We are beginning to get the first account of what took place at the home of Dr. Michael McKinney in the hours before and after Amber Spradlin was found murdered. Spradlin was found stabbed at least 11 times in the neck and head on June 18, 2023. Two arrested for meth trafficking after high-speed chase
PIKEVILLE, Ky. — A Pike County man and woman were arrested after a high-speed chase came to an end and police found meth in the car. A state trooper was patrolling U.S. 460 when he spotted a pickup truck with a broken windshield traveling along the highway. He attempted to pull it over, but the truck sped away instead, leading to a pursuit reaching speeds of 90 miles an hour.
